Media key concepts.

This blog is going to be about how the media makes commercials and print ads to affect us considering the key concepts from my Media Studies class.

#1 The media constructs reality
http://youtu.be/08FSIRLdAv4
In this commercial the girl has a sudden urge to itch her scalp but she is on a first date and doesn’t want him to see her itch. So she pretends to drop her fork and ducks under her table and when she comes back up her hair is out of place. The media is implying that if you use there shampoo your itch shall be soothed. The way they portrayed it was silly because who cares what he thinks If you itch your scalp. Sure it isn't the greatest thing ever but why be so concerned about it?

#2 Audience negotiates meaning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebEKxYow-Vo
In this commercial a women is looking into the mirror when a little blond lady shows up and tells her that her friends think her hair sucks and that she should dye. I notice that the girl sort of smiled when the blond reminded her of an old fake compliment which i think would mean she was happy with how she looked. The marketers are telling women that if they use there product there hair won't look washed out anymore but you might not be able to tell so better be safe then sorry right?

#3 Commercial implications?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVBsypHzF3U&ob=av2e

In this music video there are plenty examples of product placement up to nine different brands from Gaga's own headphones she sells, a dating site, and miracle whip. It could be so much work to list them but i find it astounding on how much stuff could be pushed into one video. It makes me think of how much money those companies paid to have there product in a music video that was bound to be popular (yet very ridiculous) and would have plenty of views from television to the internet. Easy advertisement that isnt as annoying as commercial right? Well i find it even more annoying to have a product shoved in your face from something that was supposed to music.
#4 Media containing values and messages
http
://youtu.be/uset5-5pab
This is a commercial for Rice Krispies but you basically get the message of family bonding and child hood memories. How do you get to experience, this bond, this childhood? Well go ahead and bake some reliable ricekrispie squares or in there case stars. It shows you an adorable commercial but there still trying to sell you something because in the end there after your money because they need to get paid too.

Interests
I like meeting new people and learning more about them and their culture, beliefs, and backstories. I find awesome how people can be so different. I love reading books it’s awesome.
Values
Friendship is really important to me they help me out a lot so I value them a lot. My family is also important to me because no matter what I’m stuck with them.
Beliefs
Everyone should be aware of their surroundings and so on like the government and the stuff that happens all around the world. People can be really ignorant about that type of stuff and not know what’s going on when it affects them a lot.
Experience’s
I’ve moved to so many new places so as a kid I learned to adapt
quickly to new environments. I’ve met so many amazing people in my short lifetime so I’m sure there’s plenty more too see

Pyschographics

My psychographic?

Well I’m only a fifteen so I don’t really understand what demographic I would be in but I think from the medium who is categorizing me I am a wannabe or an emulator. I would “love” to be an achiever but I am not. I’ll try to do anything to make myself look like achiever attracting the approval of my peers. For one thing I don’t agree with a lot of what’s written for the Emulator type but I’m thinking in the broader sense that a lot of bored teenagers would be categorized as that. I feel sort of disgusted on how a lot of people are categorized but it won’t change much because there is probably a big group that could be categorized as so.  What we can do is try to understand what we are be categorized as and try not to fall for all the silly gimmicks and such. So yep thats what i think and stuff.

Did You Know 4.0 ?

What type of media do you use most often during the day?
I think I use computers more often during the day because there is so much things you can do on a computer. You can surf the internet, share with friends, study, chat, and play games. So I like using computers more even though it can be addicting with all the information handed to you from the interwebs.
How much time do you spend on the different types of media mentioned?
I probably spend around 3-5 hours on the internet depending on the day. 1 hour on youtube, 2 hours surfing, 1-2 hours on the sites I visit regularly, and Facebook always on a tab. I spend around 2 hours watching TV but only when my shows are on, besides that TV is usually on in the backround at my apartment. I listen to alot of music but I only probably listen to about an hour a day. I read alot so when I get my hands on a book I'm stuck with it for as many hours I can manage. I rarely read magazines and newspapers but when there is something interesting I will read it.

What fact shocked you the most? Why?
The fact about how there has been more video uploaded to YouTube in the last 2 months than if ABC, NBC,and CBS had been airing new content 24/7/365 since 1948. I find it amazing how much information can be shared via youtube but most of the time its useless stuff... like keyboard cat -.- .
How important is media to you in your life?
Media is extreamly important to me it molds the world around me and the world molds me. It sounds cheesy but its sorta true. I could probably live with out it but wheres the entertainment in that?
Any other thoughts or reactions.
Well I believe that media is important to everything it helps create the culture we are in now. Its awesome. (:
